Student Involvement in Sustainability and Environmental Awareness

Student involvement plays a vital role in promoting sustainability and environmental awareness at Andijan State Technical Institute (ASTI). Each year, various student organizations actively organize activities and campaigns dedicated to fostering eco-friendly habits, sustainable mobility, and environmental responsibility among the campus community. These initiatives not only complement academic efforts but also encourage youth leadership and civic engagement in the field of sustainability.

One of the key student-led activities is the annual participation in “International Car-Free Day”, held on September 22. During this event, students and faculty members collectively promote alternative modes of transport such as walking, cycling, and public transit to reduce carbon emissions and raise awareness about the environmental impact of excessive car use. The campaign encourages the university community to rethink daily commuting habits and adopt greener, healthier, and more sustainable lifestyles.

Another notable initiative organized by students is the “Make Room for Life!” campaign, which focuses on environmental preservation, green spaces, and biodiversity protection within the university campus. Through tree planting drives, waste segregation projects, and educational sessions, students emphasize the importance of maintaining clean and green surroundings. These efforts not only enhance the physical environment of the campus but also instill a deep sense of environmental ethics and sustainability values among participants.

Overall, the continuous organization of such student-led sustainability activities demonstrates the institute’s strong culture of environmental responsibility and student engagement. These programs contribute significantly to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land), while supporting the university’s active participation in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking.
